Hangover Help.

December 22, 2008

We had a really nice weekend, including attending a Winter Solstice Party. Which also happened to involve drinking a fair share of my new favorite winter beverage: Glögg. Yowza. Recipe to follow, no need to fret.

In the meantime, I thought I would share this handy visual aid and link, which the lovely Courtney featured on her blog. Hangover help from around the globe! My own personal remedy? An Emergen-C and a couple of Advil right before bed and a Double Double with an extra super huge Sprite with lots of ice the next day. Any other good home remedies?

  1. I agree, a Double Double is always my choice for a hangover remedy, unless I can't wait until lunch and then I always eat some type of egg dish for breakfast.

  2. Hi, I've been reading your blog for some time now, but never commented - but with this subject, I just had to! My cure is Advil before going to bed, and then McDonald's breakfast in the morning (which I NEVER do except with a hangover) with a large Coke (I'm convinced McDonalds puts more coke syrup in their drinks!).

  3. This makes me laugh! I go for 2 or 3 large glasses of water and a couple tylenol right before bed. If this doesn't do the trick a coke from McDonald's and a chorizo and egg burrito with lots & lots of hot sauce.

  4. I guess I have never told you that my dad makes a huge batch of Glogg December 1 and we drink it all month (we are Swedish afterall). Gil had to learn to make Glogg before he was allowed to marry into the family! It's strong stuff.

  6. I never go to bed drunk without eating a small snack and drinking a few large glasses of water. And I pop a couple Advil too.
    I hate hangovers!

  7. Pedialyte! It sounds weird, but it works!

  8. Can't wait for the Glogg recipe! And I may be strange but I don't remember being hungover for a long time. I used to always make sure to get some good greasy food the next day though.

  9. Isn't Grogg yummy!? I went to my first official Glogg party (Swedish host and everything) and she made authentic Swedish Grogg and goodies with it. Did you put nuts and raisins in yours? So good... Sorry, can't help the hangover, but I bet the pedialite really works.

  10. EmergenC and two tumblers of water before bed. Giant diet Coke and cheesburger the next day (to soak up all the toxins). Usually there is some deal making in my head about how if I feel better soon I will stop abusing my body and treat it like the temple it is. Until next time.

  11. In Brazil there's an over the counter pill called "ENGOV": you take 1 before you start drinking and 1 after. I don't understand how it works, but it works!

  12. I love the idea of having solstice parties in lieu of the more prosaic holiday party or 4th of July barbecue. There's so much history behind the solstice celebrations, as well, so you're really aligning yourself with the traditions of ancient civilizations. So cool!
