Week 21.

May 30, 2009

This week I had to officially bust out my maternity jeans. I had been *squeezing by* with my regular jeans and a Bella Band or a hair tie (you know that trick, right?). When B saw me he asked, "Why are you wearing mom jeans?" Thanks, husband, thanks a lot.

Our Day at the Happiest Place on Earth.

May 29, 2009

As B says, we officially became parents yesterday. No, the whole childbirth, infant stage, nursing, diapering, sleepless nights, surviving teething, touring preschools, reading Goodnight Moon 47,325 times, playing dinosaurs, etc., etc., etc. didn't make us parents. A trip to Disneyland did.
This was probably the highlight of C-Man's day. He's not the most touchy-feely kid (much to my chagrin!), so to see him run up and give Pooh the biggest hug, eyes closed, gripping tightly, not wanting to let go? Yeah, that made the whole day worth it. (Even if that bear doesn't wear any pants. Hmmm.)

JuJu stole most of my Monte Cristo sandwich (I have to get one every time I go).

Somehow, somehow we made it out of that park with just one "treat" for C-Man. Beignets with powdered sugar. Nice choice.

The Jungle Cruise was JuJu's favorite. She screamed with delight for every animal we encountered.

Baby's First Shiner.

Poor baby girl.

Why Must Little Girls With Pigtails Be So Darn Cute?

I'm not going to try to answer that question. One of the great mysteries of life. I'm just stoked Juju is finally over pulling out any barrette or ponytail holder within 30 seconds!

A Trip to Sprinkles.

We headed up to the O.C. for a visit with cousins Jevan and Casey yesterday. Always, always so good to see them....but the trip was made just a bit sweeter by a visit to Sprinkles Cupcakes before we made the drive home. C-Man was really digging the Chocolate Marshmallow version.

p.s. why does the O.C. scare me so much?

Blogger's Favorites.

May 22, 2009

Happy Friday! Joslyn asked me to participate in her Blogger's Favorites series (which I have been addicted to since she first started it way back when). Check it here.

A Little Vacation Dreaming.

I always look forward to browsing the new Toast catalog, but this time it had me in serious armchair traveller mode. I think I need to go somewhere hot, dry and very Mediterranean STAT. Cyprus? Corsica? Mallorca? Any would do at this point, really.

Week 19.

OK. I give in. I have no good material lately, so I guess I'll start belly shooting just like everyone else. I just wish Ryan would take the pictures.

p.s. By pure coincidence (I swear!), I am wearing this AA skirt and shirt.

American Apparel Does Maternity. (Sort Of.)

When I first got pregnant this time around, I thought "Oh cool, I'll do a post about outfitting yourself your whole pregnancy long exclusively from American Apparel!" (Which is pretty much what I did with the other two.) It's great....the clothes are comfortable, don't look "maternity," they are totally affordable, and you can wear them after you have little bambino. Trust me. You'll need the stretch. And I don't know about you, but I HATE Pea in the Pod. Ridiculously overpriced and generally lame clothes.

But someone much cuter than I, and with a husband that take fantastic photos beat me to the punch. The nerve. Take a look at these great belly shots and cute outfits from American Apparel. Check out this cute family and great blog at Pacing the Panic Room.

My "Did-Do" List.

May 13, 2009

{sorry, i accidentally published this post earlier this morning before it was finished...}

I got this idea from Wendolonia (which she got from Rookie Moms). Instead of always making that to-do list and feeling ineffective for not getting to everything, why not make a "did-do" list once in awhile to take stock of just how much you really get done during the day? I think this is an especially great idea for stay-at-home moms. It's easy to feel like you can't get anything done when you have kids who interrupt everything you do all day long. Know what I'm talking about?

Here's my list so far:

5:30 a.m.: Nurse Juju
Change Juju's diaper
Get C-Man out of bed
Fix kids breakfast
Help feed Juju
Check and send email
Pack C-Man's lunch
Drink coffee with B (all of about 30 seconds)
Strip beds and start washing sheets
Dress Juju
Dress C-Man
Read Juju 2 books
Get play-doh set up for Juju
Get paints and glitter pens (specifically requested) set up for C-Man
Get myself dressed
Put Juju's hair in pigtails
Do some of morning dishes
Clean up play-doh, paints and glitter pens
Drive C-Man to school
Check voicemails
Call Delta Airlines to fix Juju's ticket (name misspelled...grrrr)
Do more laundry
Secured babysitter for Monday
Went with B and Juju to post office to apply for her passport (finally)
Stopped by produce store
Made cucumber soup and croutons for lunch
Ate lunch with B and Juju
Cleaned up after lunch
12:15 p.m.: Sent B to get C-Man from school

Phew! And I swear it doesn't look or feel like I've done anything today!

What does your "Did-Do" List look like?

A Little Mother's Day Bonus.

How sweet is this? Abby stayed with us all last week and she left this for me on Sunday....a bunch of good magazines, some chocolates from a local shop (that I had told her about a few days before) and a very heartfelt card. And I'm not even her mom! Total bonus.

Meal Planning Monday.

May 11, 2009

I have simply been a terrible menu planner lately. I wish I could say I just wasn't posting the plans. No, plans were not being made. And so we've eaten a lot of sub-par meals lately as a result. Time to get back on track.

slow cooker cabernet pot roast (from trader joe's)
white potatoes and green acres carrots
steamed green acres beets with butter and dill

pasta e fagioli
rancho gordo cranberry beans
green acres lacinato kale

penne with sun-dried tomatoes and arugula

Thank You!

May 8, 2009

Thank you, Molly, for having me guest post over at My Favorite Things this week! It was a lot of fun and I've "met" a lot of fun new people.

More Carseat Dancing.

May 7, 2009

We had a special request for some more Juju dancing, so here it is. I had planned to get C-Man in the video, because he really, really, really likes this song and sings almost every word, but he wouldn't have any of my camera in his face. So, Juju happily obliged with some grooving in her carseat.

Man, I Need a Mango Michelada.

May 6, 2009

One of the bummers about being pregnant is the alcohol issue. I am not one to completely cut it out, as I prefer to see myself as a French woman intent on pursuing joie de vivre, just stuck here for the time being in an American body. Ha. Anyway, I do have a sip of wine here and there with my dinner (it's only civilized, right?). But I do not indulge. I wish I could, however, after all this talk of Cinco de Mayo and margaritas and such. This drink, the Mango Michelada, sounds particularly intriguing. Will someone please try it and report back? (Nichole, I am thinking YOU should do this for me!) And think of me while that cold, refreshing goodness is going down.

p.s. I miss Cocktail Fridays! Wah!

The Garden Tour.

May 4, 2009

We participated in a neighborhood garden tour yesterday, which was really fun. It gave us the excuse to finish up some things in the yard that had been left un-done and we were able to meet tons of new people (the best part). Three painters came and set up in our yard while the tour was going on, which was also a nice aspect of the afternoon. Both C-Man and JuJu were inspired to do their own painting:

(the tongue indicates intense concentration)

C-Man set up his first lemonade stand and made a few dollars...pretty good considering he was charging a penny a cup (for fresh-squeezed, no less)! But he got a bit bored with the lemonade stand and parade of neighbors (about 500!), and decided to strip down completely naked and go for a swim. Nice.

When he got out, I managed to slip a pair of undies on him (he wouldn't put anything else on) and then went to the herb garden and started picking handfuls of chives and eating them as people passed by. Occasionally he would offer some to neighbors. I don't think anyone took him up on it. Again, nice. We have such a nerd-ly little boy. And we love it. :-)

My Favorite Things.

This week is going to be so fun! I am guest blogging over at My Favorite Things, which means I get to blab about the things I like or want or that make me happy. A total indulgence. :-) Come on over for a visit!
