So, every once in a great while, B likes to make some sort of outlandish promise, and so far, has always made good on them. Like the time we were in Cortona, Italy and Bryan told me he would introduce me to Frances Mayes (the author of Under the Tuscan Sun). We practically ran her over with our car (I still don't know how he found her) and he hopped out to introduce me.
Anyway, when we bought our house, the owners told us that it had been in Sunset Magazine right after it was first built in the '60s. I think that night Bryan told me he was going to get the house back into Sunset. I was like "pshaw. yeah right." Well, I am happy to report his promise-keeping record is still perfect. In the October issue, our house is featured! So, if you are not completely sick of looking at pictures of it yet, pick up the latest issue. There are some photos online too. ReplyDeletedid they say, cut something up like an eggplant? just curios :)
curious*
ReplyDeleteholly: yes, the eggplant scene was staged. their stylist brought a bunch of different vegetables for me to cut up. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jora - I just found your blog and from what I can tell so far, your house is perfect and I love your minimalist style. You may have covered this somewhere in the past, but I'm curious (as a business woman/mom of 2 boys)...where is all the paper? i.e. invitations, school announcements, mail and just all that paper that seems to come with having kids, esp. kids in school! (I realize you only have 1 in school so far...) If you have any insights that you can share re how you organize this "stuff" and/or photos of your work area/desk/etc., please tell!
ReplyDeleteIt was destiny! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWow. That B is a keeper. I love a guy that can make things happen. This set of photos is really wonderful. So full of warmth.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I agree that your B is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteJust in case it happens sooner than later, wishing you a wonderful delivery! Can't wait to see your new babe!
I agree with Diane - would love some post on how you live clutter free. I know most of this "being organized" thing is just innate for some people but I would love to see some of your systems!
ReplyDeleteI have been such a shut-in lately and seeing this and the article made me so happy! Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteP.S. If you don't mind my sharing;
for all of the "clutter" questions, I asked Jora the same thing as far as mail/paperwork clutter goes and she told me that B has an idea that works well for them; you only touch a piece of mail once. Meaning: address the issue at hand immediately.
(Hope I remembered that right Jora!)
Re: the lack of clutter issue:
ReplyDeleteFirst, those photos were taken by professionals with prop stylists and photo editors, etc. Plus the cleaners had just been there. The photos are not represntative of how we actually live! (Right now I have hard bits of play-doh scattered all over the dining room floor, a stack of dishes to do from lunch and my kitchen counters are really, really sticky from who knows what).
Second, B is the clutter-free person in our house. I don't like clutter, but I'm not organized when it comes to paper. He does all that, and Mel got his mantra right: "touch a piece of paper/mail only once." He also has taught me to cut way back on shopping for "stuff" -- it just takes up space and you don't really need it. He is a great filer....he has folders on almost every subject. Again, it is not my system, it's his. I just get to benefit from it!
I never get tired of looking at pictures of your house. Congrats! I can't wait to pick up an issue.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Jora! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they had you and your family in the photos. Really cool. I'll never tire of looking at your house.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE your house Jora, so I never tire of looking at it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the magazine article. I don't know the magazine as I live in Australia, but what a buzz it must be for you, and I think it is great that they put in the before and after photos, gives your place a real sense of its history.
Happy weekend.

ReplyDeleteYou live in this house? Oh my gosh how wonderful! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteI loved your house the minute I saw it. And of course you guys in it too!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome - congrats!! We lived in Castilgion Fiorentino for awhile in college which is a town over from Cortona so we visited it often...such a pretty town.
ReplyDeleteExcitement! Your home is beautiful and your husband sounds like a keeper. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, I was flipping through the latest issue of Sunset today (the article on Frank Lloyd Wright house made me pick it up), and a picture of a daddy and his little girl caught my eye... I thought, "hey, that looks like--wait a minute! It is!" Wow, Jora! I love that your little guys were included in the piece. How exciting! Now I'm definetly glad I got this issue.
ReplyDeleteWoot! I still feel so lucky that I get to hang out there ;-) (love the story about Frances Mayes, I didn't know that!)
ReplyDeletewhat a great home! being an east coast girl, architecture like that is so foreign to me, but i LOVE it! the photos turned out great, looks like you were in your element even though they were "staged"! congrats!

Yay on the Sunset re-visit. That's so cool. After I read this post, I scooped up the magazine, and learned something very interesting. I am acquainted with your architect! My husband's college roommate is married to her twin sister! Do you know Andrew and Jude too? They also live in a mid-century stunner.
